VOLUNTEERING TO HELP THE INDEPENDENT CAUSE
We launched the volunteer approach when we first started the site. We had some tasks and some great folks stepped up to the plate to help out. At that time there were around 40 independents listed on this site. Thanks to those initial folks.

The little red icon indicates a task that was completed by a volunteer. The yellow icon indicates a task that is being worked on by a volunteer. The green icon indicates a task that is waiting for a volunteer. Feel free to suggest/work on something that you think will benefit the independent cause. You can use the link at the bottom of the page to send us an email if you think you'd like to help out.

Let Organizations Know About Us - If you visit the Organizations link on this site you will see we have a pretty long list. It would be really helpful for someone to contact each organization and direct them to our site and perhaps request a link exchange when appropriate.
Well, everyone can do this with their contacts in business, affiliations, etc. Thanks to those who do.

Let Companies Know About Us - We have an email list of many of the IT companies in Colorado. Similar to the organizations task, it would be really helpful for someone to contact each company in a some way, and direct them to our site as a means of filling project tasks. Who knows, you might find the perfect gig yourself during this process.
This is another one you can pitch in on. Just let companies know we are a resource for finding talent.

Repost Independent/Contract Jobs from RMIUG - If you are in front of your PC most of the day, and are signed up on the RMIUG list, you see lots of job postings, many of which are contract-type jobs. The editor of this site could use a break from the task of reposting the RMIUG contract jobs to our site. If you'd like to handle this for a month let us know. It's pretty easy. The nice thing about reposting to the CI site is that (1) we get a good gauge of the contract job market and (2) our forum does a good job of listing the contract jobs. (We've since stopped doing this but thanks for the help when we did.)
  Completed thanks to Jamie Ferguson.

Write a Newsletter - We can always use contributors to our newsletter section. This is a great opportunity to let people know about you and to pass along tips that can help us all be better independents.
Anybody Out There? Click volunteer link at bottom of page if you want to do this.

Forgot Password ASP Function - This would be for ASP coders who know JMail or how to use a component. JMail is what the CI hoster has on their system. Your code would prompt user to enter their email address. Your code searchs the CI database for the email address. If found, it grabs the login ID and password and emails the information to the email address of record.   7/10/02 - Completed thanks to Kyle Alons of Kinook Software. Thanks.

Enumerate Independent-friendly Agencies & Recruiters - The idea is to form alliances with independent-friendly talent hunters and agencies. These dream talent hunters should have sensitivity to independent-specific ideals such as telecommute, flexible work arrangements, and so on. In return many of us independents on CI will give those talent hunters our allegiance and referrals to fill contract situations they find - in short, establish a relationship between us independents and the savy agents out there.

CI has a list of over 100 Colorado talent agents we've gathered over the last year from the RMIUG list. The volunteer needs to call or email each one and basically clean up the list so that only active, independent friendly agents remain. Then we'll publish the agency and contact information on this site. This would be a great opportunity for someone who would like to establish their own personal relationship with agents while doing the task. (This project is on hold due to lack of time and may not make sense anymore considering the turnover in the industry.)
Phase 1 completed thanks to Melissa Dunning.

Press Release - What we need is for someone to write a press release for this site and send it to front range news organizations. Ideally you will have had experience with this sort of thing.
Completed thanks to Leslie Petrovski (freelance writer) and Mitch Gerber, Anchovy Software, Inc.

Threaded Job List Engine - We need a way to list Colorado jobs we cull from around the web. Some sort of hosted discussion forum might work well. (We now refer users to RMIUG, but Andy provided a great forum.)
Completed thanks to Andy Meng of Infront Webworks

Search Engine Submission - We are looking for someone to go to the top search engine sites and submit the coloradoindependents.com url. We have the keywords already in the html but you might want to check and see if there is something else that should be there.
Completed thanks to Michael A. Cordova of 21st Century Technologies

Background Image - what we need is a nicely faded image for a background in some places on the site.
Completed by Clint of 32U eSolutions, LLC.
